A team of students from the University of Cincinnati and additional volunteers will be arriving mid-March to help us renovate a public middle school that some of our primary school students will be attending in the fall. The renovation is the next step in providing a safe, fun, learning environment for the children.
To design a safe and sustainable playground, replacing our bamboo one that has been worn down after 4 years of heavy play.
Ever year, we have a team of doctors and volunteers come to provide basic medical and dental care for our community. We will also be able to provide immunizations, anti-worm medication, and education on nutrition, basic hygiene, and use of clean water to the entire community. Our goal is to see over 400 people in 3 short days!
Catalyst Foundation will support the surveying of new main water supplies from the original mountain water source. This will include digging wells, connecting main water pipes to hydroelectric dams, and surveying additional mountain water sources. We will develop a multi-tank system that will be effective, cost-efficient and simple enough for locals to replicate with existing materials. The project is sustainable, easy to construct depending on how many families each system can support.
The Health and Hygiene Program addresses the severe malnutrition and its lasting effects upon the community we serve. We are concerned that long lasting illnesses due to poor health and hygiene affects the children’s ability to go to school, mothers’ availability to work and care for her family. Many of our community’s households lack the most basic sanitation facilities, including indoor plumbing or a squat toilet. Consequently, most of the community defecates in the open. Subsequently, there is complete lack of good hygiene practices. Our goal is to provide daily access to safe (filtered) water, proper sanitation (building bathrooms/outhouses), health and hygiene education (multi-generation community lessons), and quality medical care (annual medical visits and immunizations) for the families in our community in rural Vietnam.Donate
